High School
Academic Highlights
Whetstone offers a variety of engaging programs that bring students into contact with the broader academic community

National History Day
Students in Humanities 9 explore the history of a product or group of people and create a presentation that is judged locally.  In 2012, Whetstone students competed in the national fair in Washington DC.
Poetry Out Loud
Each year every student memorizes and performs a poem in all English classes.  Winners from the classroom perform in front of the school, and the school winner moves on to the state competition.  This National Endowment of the Arts program engages students in poetry, public speaking, and performance
In The Know
Students involved in the academic league, In The Know, compete against other schools in Ohio answering academic quiz questions.  Last year, our In The Know team moved on to the final competition, aired on WOSU.
Service Learning
Each year, students in Humanities 10 learn about the history of the settlement house movement in Columbus. After visiting local settlement houses, student form groups in which they develop and implement service projects to address needs they've observed in their community.
Students enrolled in AP Language and Composition classes attend OSU's Wexner Center for the Arts for three field trips and intensive writing experiences led by OSU faculty who also visit the classroom before and after each experience to work with students. Selected work is published and displayed in a public gallery at the main library.
Engineering Labs
Each year, Professor Betty Lise Anderson from The Ohio State Electrical and Computer Engineering Department brings her graduate students to conduct outreach engineering labs with our students in computer classes.
