About Whetstone High School

Whetstone High School is nestled along the along the Olentangy River in Clintonville. Opened in 1961, Whetstone currently serves grades 9-12 and prides itself on being a traditional neighborhood high school with a rich tradition of excellence and a great community feeling. Service Learning at WHS
At Whetstone, students give back to the Clintonville community with service learning projects.  Students are required to complete 120 internship hours but are often encouraged to complete service  learning projects as part of the curriculum.  See video below for an example of a service learning project.  Also check out the social studies page for an additional video about service projects in Humanities 10.

Fun Activities

Whetstone High Schools offers many fun activities for students, Whestone families and community members. Every August, there is a Community Grounds Clean-up day to encourage the community to come out and help beautify their neighborhood school.

Homecoming Weekend is the first major event of the year. Activities kick-off Friday afternoon with a parade through the neighborhood. The Homecoming King and Queen Candidates will ride in limos and Whetstone feeder elementary and middle school groups march along with WHS groups and many community groups and local businesses. It is always a fun time. The homecoming game begins at 7:30pm and is always exciting to watch. The King and Queen candidates are announced at half-time. The Homecoming Dance is Saturday evening in the school café. The King and Queen is announced at the dance. It is a weekend filled with fun!

There is a 5K Run/Walk hosted every year by the WHS PTA at the end of October. This “race” begins in the stadium parking lot and winds through Whetstone Park. It is open to anyone. Advance registration is recommended. Watch the WHS homepage for details.

Whetstone has a long history of excellence in academics, athletics and the arts. Stay tuned to our website to learn about upcoming activities and events from sporting events to musical performances and theater productions. There is something fun for everyone at Whetstone High School!
